The Duchess of Cambridge made her first solo royal engagement filling in at a charity event for her father-in-law, the Prince of Wales. Charles was scheduled to attend a dinner to support In Kind Direct, a charity he founded in 1996, but was called away to Riyadh to offer condolences about the death of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.
Kate earned praise for her professionalism and grace during the event, while she expressed her happiness to be able to fill in for her father-in-law, who has shown her such support over the years. The charity’s chief executive, Robin Boles, said Kate “spoke to every single guest and was genuinely interested, and interested in continuing to help.”
